One of my coworkers asked me what I will eat for supper tonight. I was really suprised to hera the word "Supper" because noboy uses this word anymore in the east coast. I haven't heard it for years after I moved to Washington DC area.
Supper actually means light dinner. Back to old days, when midwestern farmers still need to hand pick the corns, they eat a heavy meal at noon so they call it "Dinner"
Supper is a lighter meal at evening which usually consists bread, cold meats, soup or salad. Nowdays, we eat a light lunch and a heavy dinner, then go to bed. No wonder the people are fat and unhealthy in this country.
It brought up my memory when I was a graduate student 20 years ago. I lived in a dorm hanging with a bunch of midwestern farm boys and girls. My roommate major in beers and minor in pizza. He actually had a double minor because his second minor was pot. Have I ever smoked pot? Of course I did, I just never inhaled.
